Reflection

Biodiversity is extremely important and is needed to maintain a sustainable biosphere.  Over the semester, I have learned in order to have and maintain a healthy balance in ecosystems, there must be sustainable relationships between all species.  Having a healthy balance will ensure proper reproduction of species, adaptation, and for the species to thrive.  Respect is also given to nature.  Many indigenous people who take care of their lands flourish with biodiversity.  They know how to care for diversity and have tons of respect for all species living and thriving in the lands.

Join me in having respect for all species and understanding their relationship.  A healthy and thriving balance in ecosystems is essential.

How to Create a Nonprofit Organization in SC

https://www.legalzoom.com/articles/how-to-start-a-nonprofit

If you have a vision and would like to start a nonprofit organization in South Carolina, it is a straightforward way to do so.  You can put your vision into reality and help those in your community.  South Carolina has several steps in order to create a nonprofit organization.  Below are the steps to creating a nonprofit organization:

1. You must name your organization.  Once you have created a name, you must search for it in the South Carolina Secretary of State-Division of Business Filings database to ensure that no one else has it.

2. Recruiting incorporators and initial directors are essential in establishing your nonprofit organization.  There must be 3 directors and certain requirements.  Then you must have a president, a secretary, and a treasurer in office.  There are certain qualifications also for each position held (Harbor Compliance, 2022).

3. Registered agent is needed to be on staff for receiving legal notices on behalf of the organization.  This agent must be in the state and maintain business office hours.  South Carolina offers registered agent services if you are in need of one.

4. Paperwork must be done and formed.  Official documentation can be found online by clicking here.  Must file articles of incorporation (Harbor Compliance, 2022)!

5. File the initial report

6. Obtain an (EIN) Employer Identification Number:  This is a unique, nine-digit number that is for IRS purposes.

7. Last but not least store nonprofit records on a database and filing system.

8. You will need to establish policies and procedures.

9. Hold organization board meetings for the board of directors (Harbor Compliance, 2022)

10. Get a South Carolina state tax identification number.

11. You will need to apply for a 501(c) tax exemption.

12. You may register for charitable solicitation or fundraising (Harbor Compliance, 2022).

13. Then you can obtain a business license and other permits.

Invasive Species is us!

 Invasive Species

Over the last several decades, the human population has grown dramatically. Over the next several decades, our population will grow more than 25%. This will cause an issue with biodiversity and food and water scarcity. Below is a PowerPoint presentation on the invasive species of the human population on a specific island in South Carolina. Sandy island, Georgetown county, South Carolina is located between two Rivers. Peedee river and the Waccamaw river flow on each side of the island. There is no bridge access at all. Many decades prior, this island was very populated at 500 people. As of today, there is only 100 inhabitants. There is still no road or bridge access to the island. Every one has to be boated over to the mainland for schooling, groceries, and healthcare.

iPhone Species Identifier BUILT IN

Did you know when you take a picture on your iPad that you can look up the species in your camera roll?  Here are the steps:

1.  Take a picture of a species

2.  Go to your camera roll and pull up a picture that you just took.

3.  In the lower bottom of the picture, you will see a group of icons. Click on the “i” with a circle around it.

4.  Then Click on identify species.

5.  It will bring up what Siri thinks the species is. Sometimes it’ll bring up a couple species, but it will show you pictures also.

This is a great way to have and to use when you’re not sure which app to buy. This is for a beginner level. I have used often to help with identifying dogs, cats, plants, and birds.
